Perfect location, spacious room, we didn't use the onsen though. The staff were extremely helpful and saved us $500: Day 1: we leave for Nagano and later realize that we left $500 cash in a safe. Coming back was not an option due to the lack of trains. We asked in the next hotel to call Onn and ask what we can do. Day 2: we leave for Tokyo, meanwhile our cash is sent via Japan's post to our hotel in Tokyo. Day 3: the postman delivers our cash in the evening. Day 4: we leave the country in the morning. I have no idea how and whom exactly to thank, apart from leaving this review. They didn't even use any of our cash to pay for the postal fees... We are extremely grateful to the staff and will definitely stay here if we come to Nakatsugawa again!

We stayed 2 nights, very comfortable hotel, complimentary toiletries, tea and coffee. Close to the station and perfect quiet town to stay in to explore the Nakasendo Way. Bus station is at the Train Station and took bus to Magome. Walked to Tsumago and then onto Nagiso where we got the train back. Perfect day out hiking the mountains can’t recommend enough. Just watch the early closing for dinner in Japan out of season. You need to have an early dinner! The town also has its own Post Town Edo historic roads which are very nice to walk around.

Very comfortable and cozy place. You need to take your shoes off at the entrance of the hotel, which I liked, but keep it in mind if that bothers you for any reason. You can also wear your provided yukata around the hotel, so it was a comfortable atmosphere with the other guests. We also liked the free coffee provided in the lobby. There is a laundry machine available to use and a vending machine. It is easy to walk here from the train station. (5-10 min, I think) You can take a bus from the train station to Magome easily, but remember to bring cash, because the bus does not have an IC card reader (as of November 2023).

The hotel is one of the nicest hotels in Nakatsugawa within walking distance to the station and numerous restaurants. We stayed one night and enjoyed the onsen and Japanese buffet breakfast. The bedroom was clean and spacious with a lovely shower. 5mins walk from the hotel to the bus stop for Magome, we also stored our luggage at the train station for collection after the hike. Definitely recommend this hotel for the Nakasendo trail.

Good location. We walked directly from the hotel for the 21k Nakesendo trail, so perfect for us. We also got the train and walked in the Kiso valley to the waterfall. Hotel clean and comfortable. Staff helpful. Laundry facilities and an onsen were perfect after a long walk Breakfast is good. There are plenty of options, and it is all cooked on site. I would recommend getting breakfast as very few options nearby if you want an early start.

A nice, modern hotel in Nakatsugawa to stay when planning to walk/hike the Nakasendo trail. Friendly staff (they gave me a printout of the Nakasendo trail and shops along the way on the trail!), modern facilities, and even a public bath on site! Nice comfy beds too. There are many surrounding places of interest and restaurants (there's a great yakiniku place literally across the street). Everything is within walking distance. The JR station is only 5 mins away walking. A great place to stay if you're in Nakatsugawa or want to walk/hike the Nakasendo trail.

Breakfast buffet was excellent. High quality choices. The staff refilled the dishes to keep things fresh. The room for the 3 of us was adequate in size, beds were comfortable and bathroom wasn't cramped. The location is within walking distance of Nakatsugawa station and the area around the hotel is lovely and charming. There were lots of cherry blossom trees in bloom and the view of the trees by the river was stunning, as was the view of the mountains. We overnighted in order to take the bus to do the Nakasendo trail from Magome. Next time I'll stay longer to enjoy the area more.

I stayed here in a compact room as a solo traveller just for one night. This is such a beautifully clean place that looks newly refurbished or built. It’s one of those places where you take your shoes off and put them in a locker at the entrance to the hotel, so the entire place feels more like home. They have laundry facilities in the public baths area, which I didn’t explore, as not stayed one night, but it’s a feature I would appreciate if staying for longer. It offers free chazuke as supper!

Location was great - we stayed here so we could do a day trip from Magome to Tsumago as part of the Nakasendo trail. It was easy to find the hotel and the staff were very welcoming. The only slightly strange thing is that you had to take your shoes off when you entered the hotel which admittedly odd seeing everyone in just socks. The room was small but well laid out but the BEST thing was the hotel onsen - fabulous facilities. The breakfast which was included was also very nice. They conveniently had a lot of trail information as well as info on nearby restuarants all in English which was very much appreciated.

Such a great design. The breakfast is certainly worth it, if it’s an extra 10-15 in your local currency at time of booking per night. Make sure you do it. The onsen is really chill and great opening hours. If you ask for food recommendations they’ll give you a handy A4 piece of paper with a considerable amount of options. The staff are incredibly helpful/friendly and the location is great from the station. Unless you’ve packed like a pack mule… in which case don’t pack it if you can’t carry it. The city is great for really quick access to the old post trail and the bus station has free booklet guides. The room was really nice (double room) with plenty of space on a sofa to put your larger bags (if you have any). Would stay here longer if we were staying in the area for a sig period.
